Is"first gen for college in America" a hook?

No. That describes basically every international student applying from abroad to a US college.

“First gen for college” only applies US citizens, I think. Am I correct, @MYOS1634?

@paul2752 no, you can be first gen and international. What first gen means is your parents didn’t go to college. It doesn’t matter what country you’re from.

Thank you

It doesn’t count as a “hook” for international, but it IS factored in (as well as if your parents didn’t finish high school, or never went to school).

I’m from Bangladesh and was a scholarship exchange student to the US for a year. Please tell me that counts as a hook.

Bangladesh origin might be factored in but being an exchange student barely matters unless you were a selected to be an exchange student through some kind of competition.

It was a competition. Like, it was a very selective full-scholarship program with a really low acceptance rate, and run by the department of state

Then it’s very worthy to note in app. Congrats :-)

Yes, it is worthy mentioning. But as always, EC cannot trump scores, if you have good EC but not competitive scores, you are not going anywhere. As Bang students are competing with students from India and Nepal, you have to have high stats to gain entry to those need blind schools, if that is what you are thinking.

Scores are decent, not perfect. 2340 SAT, Sat Chem 800 and SAT math II 800. Plus, i took AP classes when I was in US in addition to the usual board exams that kids from our part of the world take. Oh well, only time will tell at this point.

That score is actually VERY VERY GOOD!
So, what happened? Did you get int anywhere?
