To most people saying ‘Merry Christmas’ and celebrating Christmas has become cultural. It’s just common and polite to say it, so it’s not a personal attack on Judaism. : o)

^ Unfortunately.

LolJk

Which is the reason Christmas has become a commercial holiday, and less religious. In fact almost all Christian
holidays have turned commercial.

I’m African and, i have never celebrated Kwanzaa either. There’s no point to it.

This is a funny thread, because “happy holidays” is what sensitive people say to avoid offending people who don’t celebrate Christmas.

I’m African and I’d never heard of Kwanza until I moved here. It kinda ****es me off when people ask me if I celebrate Kwanza just cuz I’m African. A lot of people have been asking me if I celebrate Christmas to recently.

Well the Christians stole Easter and Christmas from the Pagans and now consumerism and the almighty dollar have stolen these two from the Christians. Turn about is fair game IMO.

i love consumerism

Yeah, honestly consumerism works better than any Abrahamic religion lol

A Gallup poll found that 93% of Americans celebrate Christmas.

Basically, people are more worried about ****ing off 7% of the population than they are about 93% of the population. That’s screwed up.

Only 80% of the US population even identifies themselves as Christians, which means that 13/20 non-Christians celebrate Christmas.

The reason why Christmas is on a pagan holiday because we have no clue when Jesus was born, so they put it on that day to make former pagans celebrate it. There’s more to it I just forgot the rest.

Anyway, most religious holidays have turn into commercial holidays. Oh well a day off of school is always nice.

Are you off of school?

That’s called holiday. Learn to be sensitive to your British brethren.

It’s something of a stretch to say that Easter was stolen from Pagans.

Yea, wasn’t Easter an original Christian celebration.

Given that Christmas is a de facto national holiday anyway, I don’t necessarily see anything “screwed up” about a tiny token of reference to the fact that this country has people of multiple religions.

Now I understand this can be traumatic for the whiny evangelical *****es that populate a certain geographical segment of the country, but since they tend to be opposed to most American values, I don’t really feel like people should cave on this particular one.

My point is there shouldn’t be anything offensive about saying “Merry Christmas” when only 7% of the population doesn’t celebrate it.

Out of that 7%, how many do you think are actually offended by you wishing them a “Merry Christmas”? None of my Jewish friends have ever been offended by it and seeing as how they make a part of that 7%, it makes it even smaller.

You’re talking about saying “Happy Holidays” so that you don’t offend 2-3% of the population.

I don’t mind people saying Happy Holidays. It’s nice to wish a “Happy” anything to someone. I just don’t like the reason why people say it. They think that by saying “holidays” instead of Christmas they won’t be offensive, when in reality they’re only trying to protect less than 7% of the population.

Why should you change what you say for such a small percentage of people? It just doesn’t make sense to me. I suppose that it never will.

Probably true.

Way to change my quote.

But honestly. If you’re going to be offended by me telling you “Merry Christmas”, you don’t deserve courtesy, because it’s just ridiculous to be offended by someone telling you to have a good day.

I wouldn’t be offended if a Jewish person said “Happy Hanukkah” to me. It’s not meant to be mean or rub it in your face. It’s meant to be “Have a nice day.”

It’s just like I wouldn’t be offended if I was sick and someone of say the Hindu faith or the Islamic faith said that they would pray for me. It’s just a nice gesture.

Being offended at a nice gesture does not make sense.

Winter Solstice…

If I told you, “You don’t look as fat as you usually do!” would you be offended? I mean it’s definitely a nice gesture to comment on how you look nicer today.
