Wow you lucky people
I’m Asian and I’ve always been big my entire life. Not overweight but on the heavier side. My family wished I was anorexic lol

Lol

I feel you brah. Chinese female, 16, 110lbs at 5’7 Asian families always comment on how skinny I am. But I gained weight this year since I always used to be below 100 while being really tall so when I came back to china they’re all like “wow! You gained weight!” It’s not that annoying but what I really find annoying is when other people accuse me of being anorexic… Seriously pisses me off. Like once I was offered cupcakes by this one guy who’s only a year older than me and I said I don’t like frosting and he was like “wow… No wonder you’re anorexic.” Love how people find it acceptable to tell overweight people that its ok to be overweight (I mean some people can’t help it please don’t take offense) but its not ok to be naturally skinny? I seriously just can’t gain weight… Lol went on a bit of a rant there…

This is actually a really interesting thread… I’m Asian and I’m around 115-120 pounds at 5’6" which is normal? I think. Everyone here comments on how skinny I am (I think it just appears that way because my proportions makes me appear skinnier), but I’m pretty sure I’d be considered “fat” if I went to Korea.

But it is very convenient being able to eat a ton and not exercise and still appear very “fit”. It’ll probably come back and get me later though LOL

You do sound a bit underweight, but that’s pretty normal for adolescent guys (super fast metabolism, esp. since you’re Asian - not to be racist lol but it’s mostly true). Your family should be glad that you’re just a little underweight - and not morbidly obese. That is WAY worse.

I’ve been pretty well-proportioned all my life, but because of this I had some mild-moderate body image issues in middle school where I always thought I wasn’t skinny enough. Being well-proportioned means I will always have “fat” on my bones, which bothered me to no end back when I wanted to look tall and slim (I’m above average in height for a female, and my legs are pretty long, so I thought I could really rock that “model-like” body). I’m not into exercising, but every time I start eating super healthy and working out, I can easily lose 5-10 pounds, but as soon as I stop I gain them back. It’s a hassle.

Anyway, I’m ~5’5" and ~115 (though my weight fluctuates between like 112-120; my heaviest was like 125 or something, bleh). I’m considered “skinny” by all my friends, and I guess I am skinny compared to the average American woman LOL, but there will always be thinner (non-anorexic though), leaner girls out there that I try (to no avail) not to compare myself to. I’m much better now, though. But mainly because I have more guy friends now and most of them tell me how much they like girls with sizable thighs/butts/whatever and that they don’t find the girls I used to find attractive attractive b/c they are too stick-like. It makes me feel better about not being “model-like” or whatever. LOL.

Beauty standards have changed. Clearly.

For any people who want to gain weight…
Just start exercising! I was on JV lacrosse last year and gained a bit but then this year I’m on varsity and b/c of the excerise I would always be hungry. Being hungry led to me eating more thus gaining weight. Also, developed more muscles from excersing!

On a related note, I can’t build muscle for the life of me. I’ve been going to the gym several times a week for about 3 years now, and admittedly I’ve been slacking off this summer, but I noticed that in May I started to plateau. Actually, my progress seemed to have slowed starting in like December. I don’t know why; I’m aware that the more experienced you are, the slower you progress, but I didn’t work out that often, and without much intensity. A lot of people say I’m stronger than I look, which I guess is a compliment, but I wish I could gain at least one pound lmao

According to Wikipedia, the average body weight in China, Japan, and Vietnam (I think) is 134 lbs, 130 lbs, and 111 lbs, respectively.

I feel fat reading those numbers.

It’s so hard to get used to more weight. I used to weight around 90 lbs and when I got to 100 lbs, man it’s hard to run. It took me a couple of weeks just to get used to weight until I stop eating for some reason and lost weight. Now my weight goes between 90 and 100 lbs every time I don’t eat. Everyday it’s the same asian food that my family would eat and I always never finish it or want to eat it.

Wow, some of you are tall.

5’11" here and 136 pounds. #Asian_Swag lol

5’4 here, half Asian, 110 pounds. Yeah, I know, I’m fat (compared to you guys) xP

@LosingCrayon you’re lost then lol.

I feel so fat reading this thread.

My sisters call me fatty and my parents always tell me that I need to lose weight so I guess I’m the opposite of all of you. I would prefer to be like you all though. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. I’m a girl by the way.

pre caution: this thread on CC doesn’t neccessarily present weight of asian people. mostly because members on CC are mostly skinny. :p

Just weighed myself now:

5’7" Asian male
Weight from 2 months ago - 123 - 124
Weight now: 125

MAKIN THEM GAINS!!!

@Yakisoba you’re not alone. I gained 5 pounds over last 2 months. huh.

I’m an Asian female, 5’2", and pretty curvy (for an Asian). I started regularly exercising recently (because I was a lazy *** before), and I think I actually put on more weight (~5 lbs) because of the weight training/muscle building, not just from less stress and more junk food. Hopefully it’s just muscle (but probably not haha).

@Yakisoba Congrats on your 1 pound weight gain! I guess you got your wish (from your earlier post). But dang, that’s crazy…
Maybe you need more fatty fast food and less yakisoba. LOL

Guys, I lost like 5 pounds after I got my appendix taken out… Apparently the average weight is like 4.4 grams or something, so I guess I’ve been eating less? I’ve definitely been moving around less (though it shouldn’t really have been possible considering how lazy I already was).
I’m not complaining though. Thank you Asian genes. Thank you fast metabolism. I shall miss you when I’m old.
