id love to make a speech but im not even close to being val XD

Haha, khruschchevtm, of course I <3 you. :P

One thing I love about going to a crappy public high school... you can be val without taking 5 APs :D

being val really doesn't magically open doors for everyone. The val at my school didnt' get into Stanford. The other guy ranked at number 9 did.
I mean its a nice title and all, but i highly doubt it gives someone that higher of an edge in admissions. Schools get so many vals that the title just becomes meaningless... unless you are val at the number one ranked HS in the country, then that carries a lot more weight.

I got into Northwestern, and our two vals did not.

There are a ton of other factors that can make or break you.

Essays, extracurriculars, ACT/SAT scores, difficulty level of classes, work experience, etc...
You can't just depend on the title of valedictorian to get you into college.

LOL this thread ftw.

yes of course man it's worth it, you want the lowly non valedictorians to masturbate your ego 24/7 while you get high off a dose of charmeleon!

Take 5 AP's because you want to learn and think more. Not because you want a title that no one remembers or mentions in college.

Nice! :D lol. I love how everyone repeats the second post.

I'm taking 5 AP's, 3 honors (2 online) and 3 online classes in general out of school, not because I want to be valedictorian, but I want to learn all of the classes I'm taking. The only classes I am taking that I don't care about are my two electives in school are because those are the only ones my schedule would allow me to take (unless I wanted to take another PE class, me=non-athletic, the first two were plenty for me). My two electives are Spanish 1 and Forensics Honors (which will no doubt be my easiest honors class ever).

My advice: If you are truly interested in the courses, take 'em. Being val would be a plus, but don't take them just to be valedictorian. Also, if you decide to take them, be careful, manage your time, and be mindful that it will be hard work. LOTS of it. Good luck! :)

It would be nice to be valedictorian, but I don't want to make a speech in front of... everyone.

I couldn't possibly be val with my gpa anyway, so problem solved.

Lol I actually remember this thread. Poor kid must have been so annoyed by us.

My GPA sucks, and my class is way too smart (compare with the previous years). No way I can end up as a valedictorian.

If I could be a val just by taking 5 AP classes senior year, I would do it. I am taking 6 APs next year and I still have almost no chance of getting into top 10. Sad... :(

Lol are we seriously still posting advice for this guy? haha.
Anyway, I'm salutatorian [at the moment anyway] and taking 6 AP classes. I do honestly want to take them, but conveniently enough... they can help boost my GPA to get val ;]

Haha. At my school, it hurts your class rank to take AP classes (my school has unweighted).

Take them if you want to. No one is making you, and it certainly isn't necessary if you don't want to do the work.

How much does it mean to you to be valedictorian? What does it mean to you? Don't do it so you'll be remembered by others for the title, cause you won't (like the big red letters guy said it). But you yourself will remember it, and it won't be much of an excitement unless the position truly means something to you (and if you yourself forget, the school wasted the honor of the position on you).

No one can think for themselves?
