@homerdog A post from 2017 indicated they all went out the same day
@mammag That makes sense. Just thought it was interesting (concerning?) that his AO said in her email that she’s looking forward to reading his app when he sent it way back in October in plenty of time for the 12/3 Belk deadline. I wonder how it works with the Belk committee reading apps simultaneously with the admissions office?
Honestly, I don’t know why I’m obsessing about this. They’ll choose 6% of the the candidates. Lol.
Yes, regional rep!
@homerdog - hard not to obsess! I tell that to myself too!! The waiting is the hardest part!!
One more thing. Apparently, students receive an email later in February to ask if they are still interested in Davidson. Seems that the school thinks many kids apply in hopes of getting the Belk and, if they do not, they no longer intend to go to Davidson. So…my guess is that S19’s AO really hasn’t read his app yet because the Belk nominees are all being read by the merit committee and it’s only after that’s over that those who don’t go through have their apps then sent over to admissions. The 60 semifinalists are obviously getting accepted. The rest need to go through admissions and maybe admissions won’t even see those apps until next week.
Update: my daughter emailed her regional rep on Wednesday 01/30/19 about the Top Volunteer award she got. To clarify, she was notified of this award in early January, AFTER the Davidson application was due. In any case, it is now Friday afternoon and she has not heard back from him. No quick reply back that he would add it to her file. Nothing. Maybe he’s on vacation? Sick? I’m thinking she should email again but my daughter is refusing to. Again, she doesn’t want to annoy her regional rep. So I have no idea if this little tidbit is in her file for the Merit Scholaship committee to review. I just need to take a deep breath and remind myself—what will be, will be.
@LakeAlto I hear you. I don’t know how the updating works either. If they are already reading apps, does someone print out the email with the update and hand it to the person reading? Wouldn’t it a pain to figure out who is reading which apps and when? If a student’s app has already been read by someone, will they even bother to go look at updates? I guess we can only do what we can do.
I still don’t get what happened to the Belk nominees’ apps. They were due 12/3. Does admissions look at them as the same time at the merit scholarship committees? Isn’t that confusing? I guess we all just have to wait until next week for Belk info and then again until March! It’s hard to wait…
I think the merit committee looks at them before the admissions committee. So who knows if emails to the regional rep even make it to the merit committee?
I think the regional rep gives a cursory read and sends on to the committee if the applicant is deemed a contender.
@lakealto I would not have your D email the AO again, I don’t think a reply in the affirmative is needed when sending additional info.
One thing your D might do is call the main number in admissions and ask if there is a general email where updates should be sent…this takes the AO out of it, especially since you don’t know where her app is at the moment (with the AO, or another reader, or waiting to be read, etc.)
@wisteria100 - I would assume that all kids who got the Belk nomination from their school would be a contender. Or do you think that the applications for Belk nominees goes to the regional rep first?
I think they go to regional rep first from what I have heard. I don’t think everyone who is nominated is a strong contender
