I have a junior who's interested in music business/recording arts, but is not religious in the least and not into country music. Anyone have any knowledge of the atmosphere for kids like this at Belmont?

mollybaby, welcome. I’ve posted a few Belmont links in the thread here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/858079-belmont-vs-northeastern.html?highlight=Belmont

If you search for more past posts by henrob, I believe they touch on the relationship of religion and Belmont. If I’m not mistaken, henrob has also welcomed private messages relating to their experiences with Belmont. If you can’t find specific posts or threads, let me know and I’ll see what I can find.

And since he’s interested in music business/recording arts, I’ll add this for general info http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/787110-music-industry-program-major-minor-help.html

S auditioned at Belmont last weekend and has been there for choral events many times. The religious theme is mentioned by some administrators, but not all. The dorms allow opposite sex visiting all day, but none at night. 4pm-7pm are the practicing-allowed hours in the dorm! I doubt they will ever do some of the really raunchy shows.

Country music is not the dominant genre.

The thing that amazes me about Belmont is the assortment of music majors. Approximately 1/2 of the 4500 undergraduates are connected to music somehow. They are distributed throughout the following:

My son graduated from Belmont almost 5 years ago (has it been that long?) So my info is a little dated. It is a Baptist school, but it is trying very hard to be a top tier school for music business, regardless of the genre.

Nashville is a great city. Don’t let it’s connection to country music put you off. I live in Atlanta but much, much prefer the overall music culture in Nashville. Visit the school and see for yourself. Mike Curb has put significant money into the program, and in addition the Nashville community supports the school very well.

Feel free to send me any questions you may have.
