Beloit College?

Hey there. I just have a few questions on Beloit College in Wisconsin. How is the musical theater there? How big and picturesque is the campus? How about the surrounding town? Are kids there serious about academics? Do they thrive on interdisciplinary learning, or do most just have there own "thing?" How about the food? Is there a large gay population?

Carolyn had a review of Beloit which may answer some of your questions:

With regard to musical theater, I know that the theater department is pretty good, but I don't know about musical theater.

The campus is quite lovely, but rather small, with Indian turtle mounds dotting the academic portion of the campus. The town of Beloit is no great shakes (formerly rather industrial -- but now there is little industry left). Largely, I would say that the students are serious about academics, but this is not universal. The geology majors have the reputation of being the hardest workers on campus, often camped out in their labs at obscene hours. Generally, I think that the reputation is that Beloit students have a heck of a lot of reading for their classes.

I graduated from Beloit some time ago, but when I was there, there was a real emphasis on interdisciplinary learning. Professors from different departments were encouraged to team teach and bring their own perspective to the subject matter.

Food? Don't know. Gay population? active and open when I was there, but not huge in numbers. My guess is that the LGBT community may be more active today.

Beloit maintains a livejournal site, where current students can answer your questions. If you have not already done so, I would check it out. The link is: http://www.livejournal.com/community/beloit_college/

Good luck!
