Benefits of Honors College if I want to major in Mechanical Engineering

Hi I am a prospective international student and will be attending TTU this fall. I am interested in applying to Honors College in the Spring. I just wanted to know the potential benefits of the Honors college and more importantly the relevance of its courses and benefits to the Mechanical Engineering degree. I know about the small class sizes and better professors and more attention to students but how significant will the Honors College be for someone willing to major in MechE? Will it help me get internships with companies? and how valuable is the Honors tag with an engineering degree from Tech in the real world in terms of finding decent jobs?
Thank You.

The primary benefits of being in the Honors College are that the class sizes are smaller, the professors are much more accessible, and you get better professors that give lots of As for grades. It’s also a much “easier” transition into college life for freshmen–that way you’re not just thrown into a lecture hall of 350+ students. That last one is the major selling point that the Honors College advisors told me when they recommended I drop out since I joined my senior year.

The Honors tag on your transcript and degree has no real benefit in the real world. The Honors college gives its students more visibility of opportunities when it comes to internships, but your interviewing skills are what’ll sell you to an internship much more than just being an Honors student.

Thank you for he reply. Since I will be applying for th Spring semester in my freshmen yeardo you think it will be worth it? I guess I would like the small class sizes and mor concentrated attention since I am an int rnational student and more importantly I think the accessibility of opportunities such as internships and research are very much important for an international student to excel holistically. I really want to make the most of all the academic opportunities at Tech and be more prepared for internships. I think the Honors College Professors’ recommendations might b very important in terms of getting internships.
And about the Honors tag, is it just case of TTU’s Honors tag or for all the public universities’Honors tag? As in their their value in the real world?
