<p>I think that the college admissions process needs to redefine "Asian." Asia is the biggest continent, so its pretty unfair to group them all together. A person from bangladesh is going to bring a far different perspective than a person from japan, and is probably more likely to be at a disadvantage, and so could use some benefits from AA, but instead is treated as an ORM (I hear that this is the case with Filipinos...)</p>
<p>When it comes to minorities, there are endless over-generalizations. For example, my mom is from a little island in the south Pacific. However, too often are we considered "Asian/Pacific Islander." In many aspects, the cultures couldn't be more opposite. Stanford had Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, which actually makes more sense. I agree that Bengali students have something different to contribute than say a Korean student - one is not better than the other, but it's just apples and oranges sometimes.</p>
