Benjamin Franklin Scholars invite

I was invited to join the Ben Franklin scholars program yesterday, and I did a little reading up on it, but I have a few questions. Who exactly is invited? Do you think it's worth it? If you're a current Penn student in BFS your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Did your invite come via email or snail mail?

i got an email about it. and yeah, i was wondering too. i think they sent an email out to all likely candidates - maybe ED ones too? not sure.

yes ED got them too

I didn’t receive an e-mail about it but there was a letter inviting me to the program when I logged on to receive my application decision…Anyone else in this situation?
Also, I keep hearing about some scholar’s preview day. I was invited to be a JWS and BFS but haven’t heard anything about that… Is it for other programs?

^idk, i got an invite to the scholars preview along with my likely letter in early march. is there no such thing on the admissions portal for RD applicants?

got one together with my acceptance to Huntsman (RD)

BFS is like the ‘elite’ of Penn if that’s possible and for lack of a better word. Not many students are invited. It’s a privilege and I would definitely consider accepting the offer. I’m not a BF scholar but I have a friend who is.
The most I know is that it is a program that provides you with special opportunities. BFS seminar classes are regular classes offered at Penn, such as Intro to Psych, but with a MUCH smaller class size and more specialized attention. To complete the program you must take a certain number of these courses. That’s as far as I know. Below is a link with more info.

Philo - Have you been admitted to BFS? Or do you have to apply?

My D, RD admitted was invited to apply on Penn Decision link.

I’m currently in BFS and I think its a great way to get into smaller classes with the best professors. You can always drop out, so you should accept it!

I got it also

If you Do get selected you may run into problems applying dual degree

@undecided15, I’m in BFS and also a dual degree student. BFS will in no way affect any plans you may have to do dual degree.
