I have read mixed reviews of Bennington. I know it was once a very strong school. Is that still the case or is it living on a past reputation? Don't mean to offend anyone with this post, just looking for some honest answers. Thanks.

on the contrary, Bennington (and it's president) was given quite a bit of money this past year from a variety of sources, including grants and many alumni. A big new student center is in the process being built and the physical plant in general is being renovated. Also, this year the freshman class SAT score went from a past average of 1200 to 1240 reflecting the growing strength of the applicants. That said, Bennington is still only as strong as one makes it. Because of the freedom given to students, you can take your education to great heights or slog along being mediocre (however, many of those people seem to leave because they are unable to see all of the resources that the school has to offer them). I am a freshman at Bennington, and as you can probably tell, I really like it and feel that it is still a strong school, and actually currently on a big upswing!

As parents, my husband and I have been very impressed by Bennington every time we have visited. Parents weekend has so much (positive) energy and excitement from the administration, alumni and current students, as well as showcasing the strengths of the program and the students. I would have to agree that everything that I have read and seen recently points to the college being on an upswing.

Thanks everyone for your notes. They are much appreciated. A friend went to Bennington back in the 70's and has raved about it... so I was interested in getting an update. I had heard there had been some unheaval and was just curious how things had sorted out...
Thanks again...
