Berkeley Acceptance Rate?

I heard from a classmate that the senior acceptance rate from high school this year was down to single digits because of the immense number of people applying for the school (because of the budget cuts) and is a lot harder to get into now.

Is this true?

They say this every year. The acceptance rate hasn’t dropped that much - it might go down by 0.1~0.3% each year. Also, the numbers they publish are lower than the real acceptance rates because they don’t include Spring Admits. In reality, 22% of applicants are accepted for Fall and about 8% for Spring, making Berkeley a ~1/3 shot for the hypothetical average student applying to the average major in the average college =P

25.6%

[04.14.2010 - More than 12,900 offered admission after competitive application period](<a href=“More than 12,900 offered admission after competitive application period | Berkeley”>More than 12,900 offered admission after competitive application period | Berkeley)

The thing is, it depends on your location.

This year was harder for California applicants. It says that Berkeley accepted only about 9k applicants this year as opposed to 11,200 last year. That’s a significant drop for just a year’s gap. Whilst that’s the case for Californians, about several hundreds more from last years’ figures were admitted from OOS and International applicants.
