Berkeley and UCSD Please???

As an “international applicant” i would like to know my chances. I have lived in California for 7 years, attended my middle and high school years here, and applied for a green card, but haven’t gotten it yet. I am dependent on an H1 Visa. Would I be considered as an international applicant?

bump 10char

please…bump

bummmmmmp…

Based on your stats, you chance for UCSD might be 70% and for UCB around 50% because UC schools put significantly higher weight on their applicants’ SAT I scores than ACT scores (It was statistically proven). So your chances aren’t really high.

GL

@Mninjjae: Can you site a source for your information regarding SAT vs ACT at the UC’s??

bump…any other input is greatly appreciated!

You are an international applicant because you don’t have your green card, but you may be eligible for instate tuition if your parents paid California taxes.

If your parents didn’t pay California taxes, then you will be paying full fees of $55K per year for the UC’s.

Ok,my parents pay ALL California taxes. So I might be able to pay instate tuition.

Can you please chance me?

Thanks!!!

@4kidsdad
Sorry as I am new to this, but is there any way I can become an AB 540 Visa, since I graduate from a HS at California and studied at a HS here for 4 years.

Can anyone please chance me?

@4kidsdad, thanks for the clarification.

@salutation, it doesn’t sound like you can change your residency status because of your need for instate tuition.

I think you would be considered as an international student, so your chances are based on your home country’s applicants.

For now, I would say you are a reach for both schools.

Great GPA and ACT give you a good chance for both, but international and engineering major lower your chances:

UCB: low to mid reach
UCSD: mid to high match

Good luck!

Same situation as you. Lived here for 7 years, H1.

I called Berkeley, and they told me that they will consider me a domestic applicant for the purposes of admissions. They said that should I get accepted and receive my green card before my time of enrollment, then I should contact them immediately to work out the cost (granted, it is limited).

I’m not sure about what your tuition will be, but I do know that they will not differentiate you in the admissions process and you will not be considered an international applicant.

@PartyNextDoor - Thank you SO much for the clarification! This is exactly what my GC said! What country are you from?

@“aunt bea” and @UWfromCA - Are you sure that I am considered as an international? My GC told me exactly what @PartyNextDoor told me. If I was considered domestic while admission, what would be my chances for both universities?

Appreciate all your help!

No, not sure. Just followed aunt bea. That’s good news for you.

Revised estimated chances:

UCB: high match to low reach
UCSD: match

Thanks for your time and input! @UWfromCA !
Is there anything I can do to make my Berkeley chance a match to a high match?

bump for more input please!

pls chance meeeeee
