Berkeley Housing

For a first year college student, would it be better to stay in a suite or a regular dorm at Berkeley? I think the double/triple suites in Units 1 and 2 are new. Does anyone know how much bigger they are? Thanks!

The double mini suites and triple minisuites are definitely nicer and larger...but...there's no reason to stay in one your first year because it's a bit more expensive and it's easier to meet people in regular double/triples in the Units. In any case, freshmen aren't technically supposed to be in the suites

However I do know quite a few freshmen in the minisuites. Most of them got offered triples (which are quite small), and then they got emails saying that they could switch to minisuites in August.

agreed. you'll meet a great deal of people living in the hall of your unit that you might not get a chance to if you were staying in suite with just your roommates. my good friends now are not my roommates but people a few doors down in my hall. sure the suites are more spacious, but the doub/trip is the better social experience. you can always get a suite in soph year. :D
