Berkeley LoR Request

Some of my friends have been receiving LoR request until mid Jan. I did not receive a LoR request. I was wondering when can we know is the last possible date to receive a LoR request? Is it before the deadline of LoR submit - is it Jan 15 (can someone who got a LoR request confirm the deadline to submit LoRs)?

P.S. I know the LoR request does not affect whether you get in or not, I am just wondering if I should tell my teachers that a LoR is no longer necessary as I did give my teachers a head up that I might need a UC LoR.

If you have not received a request by now, then do not expect one. Regents invitations will be going out any day so decisions for many of the applicants have been already made.

@Gumbymom

Many is still 2000 / 85000… 2.3% of applicants… yay.

@hhjilal: Many probably wasn’t an appropriate word to use. Some is more like it or if you prefer, a very select few.

@Gumbymom I did not apply for Regents tho,

@Desiree2: You do not apply for Regents. Regents scholarships are given to top performing applicants.

Regents selection process:
Faculty select candidates from the top entering applicants who have been admitted to Berkeley, as determined by a holistic review by the Academic Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Honors, and Financial Aid.

California residents and a limited number of out-of-state candidates are invited in early February for a one-on-one interview with a member of Berkeley’s faculty. Interviews take place in late February and March. Notification regarding disposition of candidacy is made by the end of March.

What I was trying to say in my first post (not so eloquently) is that Regent scholarship candidates should be hearing from UCB within the next few days, so decisions have been made on the majority of the applicants and LOR’s will not be needed. If you did not receive a request by now, you will not have to submit an LOR.

@Gumbymom Thanks for the info, if decisions are made on majority of applicants already. Why are they making us wait until end of March . Or is it only the tippity top, 4.0 GPA, >2300/1500 SAT applicants are reviewed first for regents, then the rest are evaluated during the last month. I am International student tho, do intl fall in same category as oos?

I guess I won’t be needing a LoR, I am just interested in the regents process as my stats are pretty high since I am international (Canada, to be exact) the odds are against me, so I try my best to have good GPA/ scores. But I never knew about regents until you told me.
