UC Regents Scholarships?

Over on the UCLA thread, they're discussing invitations to Regents Scholarships. Apparently, invitations to apply for UCLA Regents Scholarships applications were sent out on 2/01, are due 2/10, and require a LoR and two essays.

What is the timeframe and process for UCB Regents Scholarship selection?

I was a regents and there was no essay, but if you’re around major cities in california, you may have an interview. I did pretty badly on my interview and still got it, so who knows how much the interview actually weighs in their decisions. Other than that, you have nothing else to do until they send out decisions. Good job.

Riboflavin12,
The question was the timeframe. Do you recall when UCB sent out the invitation last year?

last yr, my S got the email on 2/11 as follows. the packet came 2/12. at the interview, i asked and was told that some 1000 made it as finalists and some 200 (or 300?) where eventually selected as RS. good luck!

While it is true that RS were eventually offered to those who did not have an interview anyway (esp out-of-state/out-of-area), yes, the interview matters. It’s your chance to shine even more.

When it comes out this year, and people have questions, i’ll be glad to share some insights/experiences, and maybe give some tips. i’d like to give back to cc community as it helped us a lot last yr… (so feel free to ask me question, or even pm me anytime).

my S made it, as well as his classmate/friend (2 fr their hs:)).

hillary21,

Thanks for being so helpful. I am looking forward to reading your tips…:-)

i would be glad to share tips.

here is this yr’s UCB memo give incentive to faculty to participate in RS interview, just shows that they take these interviews seriously.

last yr, they enhanced the package immensely to make it as attractive as it can be to those who made it as RS to go to Cal. (when one receives the offer, there are actually more - like research travel expenses allowance, etc).

unfortunately, they still lose a lot of students who are accepted as RS - in their words, “the most sought-after students in the world”. sadly, my S and his classmate, as well as his roommate at Regents Overnight/Interview, all made it but didnt end up going to cal. 'love cal and it’s my D’s dream school. i still hope to be a cal parent someday too.

Hello,
I applied to UC Berkeley for Fall 2012. Cal is my dream school. I was wondering if anyone knew when Cal sends the email to the students’ candidacy for the Regents scholarship?

*When does Cal send letters to the students that are applicable for the regents scholarship?

I just got the email for regents today! It means admittance into berkeley, but they don’t tell you. haha. I’m so happy, congrats to all who got invited because you’re into berkeley!

D got a letter too. Good luck every one …

Me too! so pumped…

Nothing. Hope they’re still sending 'em out.

Is this via snail mail or email?

And do they get sent out to people living in california first?

Both. The e-mail says that the scholarship organizers are sending the information via the USPS.

They offer one night stay with current UCB student, anyone suggest to go? Appreciate

^Really? I guess getting four hours of sleep for the last week made me overlook that part of the email. Honestly, it sounds like a blast, so if you’re relatively close to UCB, I’d go.

I think that’s on the day before Cal Day, not on the day of/before the interview.

yes, there is an overnight program specifically for regents and other flagged applicants which takes place the day before and on Cal day. It is similar to the regular overnight program that is offered to everyone offered admission, but targeted at the students the univ most wishes to accept, which includes the regents but may include some OOS, talented and other categories.

@hillary21 Do you happen to know any questions they ask during the interview? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
