I’m stuck between going to UCLA Business Econ or Berkeley Econ. Which school has better job prospects after graduation?
I say Berkeley for the ibanking and consulting opportunities.
Still be prepare to work your butt off at either schools. That means go in with a game plan. Start networking right at the quarter/semester you enter. Have a well written resume. Sharpen your interview skills as much as possible. Make sure your writing and communication skills are on point. I would even prepare the wordrobe that you will be wearing. Do this all before you transfer.
I believe a lot of internships you have to apply in the fall. So if you want a good one for the summer of your junior year than prepare to apply in the fall. That means you have to know exactly what to do when you enter or u stand no chance against the students who already been there for two years.
I think this is a case of ‘counting your chicks before they hatch’.
Its great to have an idea about which programs you are applying to, but wait until you get into both before you decide where to go. One major component might be where you want to live post graduation.
As for the post above mine, you don’t need to ‘sharpen your interview skills’ or ‘prepare the wordrobe [sic]’ since neither school offers interviews. However, it is correct that you’d work had at both schools and have great opportunities at both.
I’m currently accepted into both schools but I need to choose one by next Tuesday. Does Berkeley have a better reputation when getting a job?
All things being equal, you’ll get a job from either, but I would say Berkeley would have the slight edge if you’re going to nitpick. Go to LinkedIn or Berkeley’s career center and look at the recruiting companies for each. See what companies appeal to you more.
They are obviously very close in reputation and post- grad opportunities. I would say your best opportunities will come from the school that is in the region you want to live after graduation. After your first or second job, the difference between UCLA and Berkeley will vanish.
Berkeley for high tech job even for finance. UCLA near LA, more variety of business.
My bad, I thought you were applying next year!
