Okay, so I got accepted to both Berkeley and UCSD. I am going the premed track and eventually want to go into dermatology

UCSD:
-I live in San Diego, so it is really close to home
-Got in to Eleanor Roosevelt college for human bio
-I know the bio program is awesome
-UC "socially dead"
-would probably be easier to get a higher gpa than at Cal
-no school spirit

Cal:
-I got in the college of natural resources for a major in molecular environmental bio
-#1 public school!!
-far away
-it has weather. I am not used to weather. The coldest it gets in San Diego is like 60 degrees!
-extremely cut throat
-school spirit!

Help please!?!
I'm struggling.
I'm visiting Berkeley this week and I already know I like UCSD's campus

Go with the school you like, especially if you believe you’ll do better in it. When you apply to medschool they’ll care more about you’re GPA than where you went. If you were deciding between a school no one’s heard of and Cal it’d be a different story. But both schools have a great reputation, so going to Cal won’t give you and advantage name wise. If you think of some other benefit to cal over UCSD then thats something to consider like research or a especial program. Otherwise go to the school you like. And honestly, if you’re premed you’ll be socially dead even if the school around you isn’t.

Do not believe the line that you will get a better GPA at UCSD than Cal, that is not a safe assumption, the students are very bright at all the UCs and probably UCSD kids ahd 4.0+ GPAs too, just did not write as amazing an essay ;)

I have a kid who did Cal and one who did another mid range UC, Cal kid got a better university GPA and they had nearly identical HS GPAs and classes.

I’m going for cal. I visited there this week and fell in love.

Just deposited the money for the statement of intent to register today :D

Wish me luck!
Thanks for replying

There is a lot of great energy at Cal, many opportunities! Have a great time.

“Socially Dead” lol. If you sit around in your books in Berkeley you’ll also be socially dead there.

Congrats on Cal though. I’m sure you’ll have fun!

Yeah, I just got a really good feeling when I checked it out.
The history of that campus is incredible
