Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD (somewhat freaking out)

-UC GPA: 3.92 (Low but still top 9% in my class. I qualify for UC ELC. Taken 13 AP courses and 6 Honors throughout high school with a strong upward trend, and have gotten at least a 4 on all the AP tests I've taken so far. Given the emphasis UCs put on GPA, how much does my GPA hurt my chances at these schools?)

-SAT: 2260 (730 Math, 730 Reading, 800 Writing w/ 12 on essay)
-SATII: 790 Math II, 720 Physics, 700 U.S History

EC's:
-1.Intern at a software company, I hold a quality assurance position and I basically test android applications for functionality and user convenience. 10 hours a week for 16 weeks. (11, 12)
2.Community service at church, I maintain facilities every Sunday afternoon. 2 hours a week every week of the year, give or take 2 weeks. (9, 10, 11, 12)
3.Travel basketball, I got cut from HS team but I still love playing. About two hours spent at practice every night for the team, year-long commitment. (9, 10, 11)
4. Exhibition designer at a local cultural center, latest project was a modern and vandalized rendition of Thomas Jefferson's desk that provided a subversive commentary on his character and idiosyncrasies. 10 hours a week for 12 weeks. (11)
5.Tutor kids that lack foundation in subjects they struggle in. Have tutoring English, Trig, Calculus, AlgII (11,12)

-First essay was about the challenges I faced at my high school, with over 4,200 kids attending. My second app essay was about two years in my life when my dad worked 190 miles away from home, and how his absence for extended periods of time contributed to my growth and maturity. I think both were well-written.

-Applied to Berkeley Letters & Science as Comp Sci major (major in L&S doesn't affect admissions, according to Cal's website, and is far less competitive than the college of Engineering). Applied to the respective schools of engineering at UCLA and UCSD as Computer Science and Engineering majors.

-I've got solid SAT scores, EC's, and am a California resident so I do have a chance at all three. But my GPA is freaking me the **** out!! Should I hope for these schools or prepare for a "lesser" UC? I'd be elated if I get into one of these three, but quite frankly the UC system as a whole is great so I would definitely be happy to attend other campuses (save Santa Cruz, Riverside, and Merced).

Are you serious. Youre freaking out over a 3.9(UW assuming). Everybody that I know who got into UCLA and UCSD (about 50 peeps) had about a 3.7 gpa with 2100-2200. and barely any ECs.

^UC GPA is in fact weighed.

OP, what is your unweighted GPA?

3.56, which would indeed be alarming. I also hate how UC weights only 8 honors/AP, otherwise my UC GPA would be 4.34

don’t worry about the cap. they will see your rigorous courses and the good grades you got in them. you’re fine.

I’d say you’re in at all three.

Your essays (especially first) sound generic, but if they were at least well written, you should get in at all three.

bump 10 char
