<p>“Superficial” is a very superficial description for a city.</p>
<p>I haven’t read all the replies yet but when you say you go to Berkeley, you automatically get the WOW factor from people. The name will carry you further than a school like Emory. Can’t go wrong with either I suppose.</p>
<p>In the East Coast, Berkeley will just get a few nods here and there. No one on America’s most important coast cares about the UC system.</p>

except of course the East Coasters who relocate to the West Coast to run their tech businesses, and collaborate with UCB professors and recruit their best engineers. :)</p>
<p>Berkeley is not as well known as Emory or UCLA on the East Coast. In fact, if you tell people from New England that you attend Berkeley, they will assume that you attend Berkeley College of Music.</p>

<p>what matters at this point in your life is which is more known and respected by future employers, colleagues, or future grad school adcoms. It really doesn’t matter which is more known by high school students, football fans, stay at home moms, or the man on the street.</p>
