I'm curious to know if any of you are in the same dilemma as I: Berkeley or UCLA? If so, which will you choose and why? I'm not sure where I stand at the moment, both schools are of the greatest prestige.

Same problem.

Actually, last week when I found out my acceptance to UCLA, I felt dead certain about it. And then my resolve faltered yesterday–was I missing something by not considering Berkeley. But now I’m leaning toward UCLA again.

What are the pros and cons of each school for you, personally?

I have the same problem with Penn and NYU thrown into the mix!!

Based on everything I have researched I’d go with Berkeley. Its academic programs are much more prestigious than UCLA’s and it is slightly smaller so you are less likely to get lost in the mix. Berkeley is often called a “public Ivy”- that cannot be discounted.

As ^ was getting to, Berkeley is regarded as THE public ivy and is rated as the #1 public university. I feel that at Berkeley I will be given more resources and networking opportunities than UCLA however, I also feel that UCLA would be a much more exciting school and the socal weather will be tough for me to escape (I live in San Diego). Also, I feel that I would be more active and feel more comfortable with the vibe at UCLA. I can’t wait to visit Berkeley again on Cal Day and see what they have to offer. I have several friends who were accepted to both and just about all of them chose Berkeley; I was talking to one of them yesterday and he said he chose Berkeley for the reasons above plus the fact that when he tells people he goes there, they are utterly stunned. I’m planning to go in for political science and I think Berkeley would be the smart choice. After visiting both schools by April 20 I hope to get the feel for them as I need. Let me know how you guys advance with your decision! Thanks.
