I just got accepted to berkeley's college of letter and science, as well as international development studies at UCLA, and one of the big things that keeps me from favoring berkeley is that I hear they want you out after 2 years of being there for transfer students. I plan to double major and spend a year studying abroad to become fluent, which would set me at 3 years. Is it true they wouldn't allow me aid for this and would make me leave after 2 years? I know UCLA allows it.

They’ll give you extra time to complete a double major and they’re willing to work with you as far as I know, but I must admit that they’re kind of anal about the 2 year time limit for transfers.

I believe they give an extra semester to people who double major, so five semesters.

But not study abroad? because that is actually the most important to me

@squashbanana

Oh, I don’t know about that. I’ve heard studying abroad causes students to stay in school a lot longer. Not sure if that is generally true or not, but studying abroad and double majoring is probably not feasible at Berkeley.

Hmmm then I guess I am at 95% ucla then because they encourage me to study abroad!

@squashbanana are you sure UCLA is better in this regard? A recent correspondence between myself and a rep from their philosophy department made it sound like they had limits as well. Regarding Double Majors specifically, he said:

"The process involves creating a plan for the remainder of your time which demonstrates that you would be able to satisfy all requirements within reasonable limits, both yearly (you won’t be able to stay 3-4 years to do so) and quarterly "
