As an international student applying to Berkeley, how much financial aid will I recieve assuming I get in if my parents make about 38k and are paying for a brother 18k at a uni?

Read this link. It gives info about international student aid.

I will say…even U.S. Citizens who are not CA residents can expect to pay ar least $23,000 a year to attend Berkeley…plus any calculated family contribution…plus any gap as Berkeley does not guarantee to meet full need.

So minimally, I believe you will be paying in the $25,000 range per year…MINIMALLY.

As a public university, Berkeley only ‘meets need’ for California residents. Most internationals are full pay at the nonresident rate of 56,000 per year for tuition plus expenses (this includes the extra 23,000 tuition supplement for all nonresidents pay and no award will be given for this) no matter family income. The very minimum will be EFC + 23,000–you can do a guess of your EFC from the calculator on the site choosing an out of state as your residence. There is very little opportunity for funding although some very limited merit awards can be given-- some assistance is available for low income students later, but it cannot be relied on.

Students needing substantial aid should apply to colleges that give it. Private colleges and limited publics.

Berkeley costs over $53k per year for an OOS student. At a minimum, OOS students pay $23k per year plus full federal loan and work study.

As an int’l, that would suggest that your family would likely be expected to pay AT LEAST $30k per year…and likely much, much more…your family would likely be expected to pay all costs.

UCB is a public institution and most aid comes from Calif and US taxpayers, and int’ls aren’t permitted to receive those funds.
