Ofcourse you can i will be majoring in Music Therapy with a minor in Jazz vocal performance

Im sure you were amazing! I auditioned and sang a jazz piece entitled Moody’s Mood For Love, I also sang a classical art Aria from the Marriage of Figaro, did a couple scaled, improvised over a couple chords, and i sight read/sung.

Just got an email from Berklee today: “While we have every confidence in your ability to succeed at Berklee, the unprecedented level of competition in our admitted class means that we are unable to award you a scholarship at this time.” No scholarship Does that mean that although I can’t receive one now, do I still have a chance for one in the future? For example, if someone with a scholarship decides not to attend? Either way I’m still going no matter what, but it would be nice to know. A scholarship just would have been great.

Tj, while you may not be eligibe for a scholarship for your starting semester based on that letter, there is a way for you to re-audition for scholarship consideration once you are a student. You have to successfully complete some number of semesters (more than 1, not sure how many though) and then you can audition and/or apply. Look up Berklee Achievement-based Scholarships and you can learn more.

Berkleegirl, Congrats to you. What was the scholarship that you received for 25,220? And was that each year? That’s not a whole number so I’m curious if there is more than once scholarship or if that is merit plus financial aid together?

SnowflakeVT, thank you. I’ll check it out.

My major would most likely be performance or songwriting, and my primary instrument is voice, although I do accompany myself on the piano.

Is anyone still waiting to hear back from Berklee about scholarships?? I emailed them yesterday and will call if I don’t hear back on Monday…what could be taking so long?

FxBeast, you should just call Berklee directly as it sounds like your situation is unique since you deferred from a prior year.

I did call them two weeks ago and they said to wait “a few more days”, then I emailed and the said that I’ll hear before the end of the month. I’m just wondering if there are others still waiting…

FXbeast, I got my scholarship decision last week. Bad news for me. Still going though, just kinda sucks I’m going to be in debt up the ass.

FxBeast, just call … you likely had a form response that is vague on purpose. You may not find out until the end of the month but then again you could find out sooner if you just call again and see if they have any news for you.

One thing I have discovered about financial aid departments (as distinct from admissions departments, which can tend to have students on the phone, occasionally giving confused answers) is that if you call and talk to a counselor, you are more likely to get a clear answer specific to your own case. But you may have to work your way up the chain to talk to a counselor or even “your” counselor, if they divide cases up alphabetically or by region. I don’t have personal experience with Berklee, but I do have a lot of experience with many finaid offices at various schools, and from experience learned that email is answered slowly or sometimes not at all, but a ringing phone gets you to a person.

You could also have one of your parents call–this is the one office in a college where it can be appropriate for the parent to be doing the inquiries and negotiation, since it is mostly their tax record, property, and income that predicates the decision for your aid.

And some of the smaller schools and conservatories only have ONE person in the financial aid department, so things can get backed up, but at least you’ll know who you’re dealing with!
