We’re bummed out too. He’s still auditioning for more schools in February, and some of them tend to be more selective than Berklee but have the reputation for being more generous with aid. I hope he aces those auditions!

Circling back around to this, while we wait for Berklee.
Do they give ANY need-based grants? Or can anyone confirm that the “aid” is typically a suggestion for the parents to take a large loan?
We don’t have big expectations, but it was a what-if situation, and almost like a rite of passage to apply to Berklee. He did it back in October, and finally soon he’ll get his response!
From Berklee, my son got $8000 in merit and some additional aid, adding up to about $26,000. I don’t remember the breakdown, but a good chunk was loans. There was an institutional grant awarded in addition to the initial merit/audition scholarship. In the end, it’s probably not enough for us to send him there. He was so disappointed not to get more aid.
Son has decided on Berklee! We are excited as it is nearby and he can stay with his existing band and connections in the area. Feels good to have decision made:)
