I have done some reading about Berry College. It sounds like it has a good education department. But the school is very small and it seems like a remote location. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of the school?

I guess no one is interested in this school!

Well, op is asking for first hand knowledge.... I never heard of it so looked at the website. Very pretty campus - 28,000 acres!

Two things impressed me, from their website:
Berry is ranked No. 2 in the South among comprehensive colleges that focus on undergraduate education by U.S. News & World Report’s 2006 guide to "America’s Best Colleges." Berry also ranked third on the magazine’s regional "Great schools, Great Prices" list and fifth in "Highest Graduation Rate." Additionally, the institution was listed among America's 367 "most interesting colleges" in the 2006 edition of the Newsweek-Kaplan College Guide.

And it has a $573 million as of June 30, 2005 (including land for resale) endowment.

Anyone else?

We visited with my eldest - which would have been in 2000. We have many friends from around here that go. We loved the campus, but their economics department was only a couple profs, which wasn't big enough to satisfy S.

The school is conservative. The campus is gorgeous, and huge. Has complete dairy farm, etc. Some of the benefits:
Used to be that they gave full tuition to those scoring above 1450 on the SAT. Don't know if that's still true.
Every student who wants one can have a job, regardless of need. They believe it's good "real world" experience. And it helps them keep costs down for maintaining the campus. Everything from sports trainer to milking cows. (Literally!)
Education majors often work in the on-campus daycare for great experience.
Rome, GA is about an hour from Atlanta. Not sure if they have regular shuttles or anything, but there certainly are a few things to do in Atlanta, if you look carefuly. :)
Had the biggest dorm rooms we've ever seen.

We tried hard to interest D in it, but they don't have the depth of language programs she wants. S1's friend graduated from Berry (double major French and International Relations, I think) and is now in law school at UGA. Know many, many graduates and they all loved their experience. I have only heard good things, and am sorry I've never been able to convince any of my kids to attend.

Thanks, guys, I like the idea of the on campus daycare. My daughter works with preschool children now and enjoys it. She will have to find out more about the education department. An hour from Atlanta, might be a little far. So the campus would need to have activities to keep the students happy on weekends. I guess we will add it to the maybe list.

It is the largest college or university campus in the world. Huge endowment, much of which they use to keep list-price low. It is said to have a relatively religious student body. Apparently they produce lots and lots of future teachers. That's about all I know.

A 28,000 acre campus.........that's almost 45 square miles!

Religious could be a problem. I didn't get that from their website. I will need to look again.
