I am at a Community college in south florida (i live in broward county) and am planning on transferring to a local 4 year univ once im done with my AA. My major is accounting. The schools im considering are FAU,FIU, and NOVA. Does anyone know which of these is best for accounting major and I would also like to know if any of the big 4 recruit at any of these schools since i hope to work at one once i graduate. Or should i just get out of south florida all together (i have been considering moving to chicago as well). I also would like to know if any suggestions as far as should i take my extra 30 credits before i join the workforce for my CPA or if i should go straight to work and get the CPA while i work. i dont mind taking classes while i work (i work full time now) but i dont know if i would have the time if i did work for a large national firm. thanks for any help.

I hate to be “that guy” that links things, but this is a great read. I’m an accounting major also.

things to consider:
cost of school/FA etc
AACSB accreditation (FIU is the only of these with said accreditation)
big four recruiting if that interests you

Further, you should consider getting a MAcc since you need the additional hours. Schools with accelerated masters programs should get extra weight.

FIU has a masters program as well. It appears to be the superior school for what you want to do.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the info looks like FIU it is. I might sound a little dumb but what is MAcc?

Macc is short for Master’s of Accounting. To sit for the cpa in most states, you need 150 credit hours, whereas your bachelor’s alone only gives you around 120. The Macc is designed to give you a little more preparation for the CPA exam and to get you to the credit hour requirement.

i agree with the notion of getting a MAcc to fill the credits. In florida I know the rule is 36 hrs of upper level accounting credits and and 39 of general business. therefore, you cant just fill it with credits like pottery 101 or intermediate bowling (lol).ive heard this suggestion before with other states because i guess they didnt have as stringent of regulations on the type of credits, but for fl you need them, so i dont see why not to get a MAcc.

two fold benefit:
-CPA exam prep/requirements
-Masters degree
