It is the time of the year again, many students have to decline offers from colleges. I was wondering what the best approach is to decline offers from colleges email to admission office vs. mail the postcard or letter to admission office vs. make a polite call etc.

Thanks!

I like those emails that let you pick yes or no, and about five things in between.

If there is a card just send it in. If there is no card call and see what they require. Usually it is an email.

My DS is doing this right now. Several were done on the school admissions website. One needs to mail back a card. One has absolutely no way to say no! I guess they don’t expect anyone to decline? Seriously, he could only say “yes” online. No postcard to return. He will email them.

Check admissions packets and online admission sites for information.

Two of the 3 schools my S had to reply to had an option on the postage-paid return envelope…for the third one I found a form letter online, modified it to put the school address in, and had him sign and mail it.

One of the schools (Clark University) sent him back a “thank you and best wishes” e-mail which I thought was nice. I was actually hoping he would choose to go there but he picked a different school…
