My soph D has an oppotunity @ a highly selective university to be a music teaching assistant . She would be unable to do it until next year because of her schedule. Since she was advanced to grad level courses in music theory, is this an opportunity worth taking, as usually grad students, not undergrads, are TA's? Or should she spend the time taking an extra course? (there's always more she's interested in as she is double majoring.) Extra money would be nice but not absolutely necessary, and since time is money...

She would learn so much from being a teaching assistant!

(And it would look good on her resume, of course.)

As a TA, she would also develop a relationship with the professor that would also be valuable in regard to references and letters of recommendation.

Another vote for TA - there are lots of classes, but few opportunities to do other cool stuff. Next year she’ll be a junior - it’s high time to get some sort of job, and this one is a good fit.

Would an internship look better than a TA? She has 2 jobs now.

Sorry - I was thinking TA as opposed to just taking classes. I didn’t realize she also had an internship. In that case, both are nice and it depends on what she likes best and is most in her area of interest. Good luck!
