Best Boarding Schools

they're on the list, near the top. just not THE top.

If you want Hotchkiss and Choate on the list, put 'em on. The whole idea of a list is subjective. If you think they belong - go for it. Come to think of it, why do you care??

i think groton, even though it is very small, is really good
the whole point is its small so you can build VERY strong relationships with the students, including older students. I know for a fact that the groton community is amazingly tight and they all get along with each other very well. and undoubtedly, groton academics are amazing, as there are stats on that. also, with groton being small, students are noticed and cared/loved by all the faculty and members of the groton community.

other schools i also like (though perhaps not as much as groton) are:
andover
exeter
st pauls (though there has been news of huge drug problems) but it's still a good school

amazingness if you don't mind sharing, what school do you go to

These rankings go on and on so here it is... the final list:
Top
Andover
Exeter
St. Pauls
Hotchkiss
Groton
Deerfield
Great (little under)
Taft
Choate
Middlesex
Milton
Lawrencevile
Middle (like start of 2nd tier after this)
Loomis
Westminister
... and there is more but you get the picture

Between all the Tier 1 schools, its impossible to say which one is the 'best'. They are all so different thats it up to the individual. I got accepted into all the schools I applied to including Andover, SPS, Exeter, Groton, Milton, Taft, Hotchkiss and Choate and initially i was going to pick Exeter but when I went to visit the schools Andover seemed the one for me. But there are tonnes of people who rejected Andover in favor of Exeter or another one so you can't say which one is the 'best'. You can distinguish between Tier 1 and Tier 2 I think but between the Tier 1 schools, the difference is negligible.

Bescraze don't be Bescrazy and forget the side of the country! Thacher is absolutely Tier 1, acceptance rate less than 20%, yield greater than 85%, star studded college acceptances and, best of all, none of the swagger!!

The top tier boarding schools:

Exeter
Andover
Thomas Jefferson
St. Paul's School
Deerfield Academy
Concord Academy
Hotchkiss
Groton
Choate
Lawrenceville

That's about top 10 boarding schools in the nation.

hey d concerned

i don't think concord academy and thomas jefferson belong on that list. concord used to be very good, but not rly now, and thomas jefferson, ive never even heard of. (the school, not the person)

i just hear from A LOT of friends
and i definitely trust them
and they're the hard to please kindda type

gunner33: thomas jefferson high school, located in st.louis, mo, has been one of the best high schools with strong academic programs in science, math, classics and so on. the median sat scores of their seniors have always been among the best, 2,000 plus sat scores. although the school is quite small, only about 80 or so students, the academic program is considered top-notch. i just thought it should be brought to the attention of cc participants for consideration. check the following websites: Boarding School Review - College-Prep & Jr. Boarding Schools and www.wekipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Jefferson_School

as for concord academy, it's still very much among the best. their seniors' median sat scores always 2,000 plus and among the very best in the nation. a somewhat small boarding school though, only 360 something students.

years ago when i started searching for the best private boarding schools, i found many of the most prestigious and respected schools rarely heard outside the academics circle. apart from exeter, andover, sps, deerfield, and a few others, most are not very well-known and more than quite a few are even unheard of. but the fact remains that they're still among the best.

my top 10 list is not really ranked in order but as a whole although i admittedly believe the top 3 would be exeter, andover and sps. but that's just my personal opinion.

Elite
Exeter
Andover
St. Pauls
Deerfield
Milton
Lawrenceville

Top tier
Groton
Middlesex
Hotchkiss
Choate
Peddie
Thacher

My opinion:

Exeter
Andover
SPS
Milton
Hotchkiss

I think the best schools are (not in order):
Andover
Exeter
Deerfield
Milton
SPS

Taft is definitely in the top group(with Choate/Lawrenceville but under Hotchkiss, Deerfield, St Pauls.. so on. Peddie is really not considered that good. Middlesex is not as good as those top top schools. Thatcher is not as good as those top top schools. Honestly Thomas Jefferson.....it has 80 students no one cares.

Bescraze, what are you basing your ratings on? (it also only has one t- sorry, pet peeve!) Thacher has a 19% acceptance rate, 90% of their seniors go to what US Weekly deems "Top Trier Schools", they have some of the best SAT scores in the country... and as for size- it doesn't matter! Size does not make a school great. Whether or not it's a large or a small school, it's still a top trier school.

Bescraze, just curious....are you an adult or a kid?

Another BS ranking system:

The ranking was determined based on SAT score, endowment/student, number of AP classes, number of Sports club, number of Extracurricular activities, boarding students ratio, students to teachers ratio, percentage of the advanced degree holding faculties, students per class, and its history(foundation year)

Bescraze, what gave you the impression that Peddie wasn't "that good"? JW because I want to hear other peoples prospectives about these schools. Thacher, Middlesex, and Peddie all have very high SAT scores/ low acceptance rates (around 20%).
