Best book for World History (and possibly AP)?

I'm thinking of taking the World History Subject Test in the fall (senior year). I haven't taken APWH or any other standard world history course, but I know a lot about the subject because I enjoy it, and I knew or was able to guess most of the sample questions on CB website. Plus I hear it has a really generous curve (is this accurate?)..

If I do well on it and decide that I have the time, I might go ahead and self-study for the 2010 APWH exam. (I'm homeschooled, so self-study is the only option.)

So basically I was wondering what would do you think would be the best book for this purpose? I was thinking of buying Barron's AP to study for the Subject Test so that I could just keep using that if I choose to do the AP as well. Obviously, multiple books might need to be purchased eventually..

This said, my priority would clearly be the Subject Test so if an AP book is not recommended to study for the World History SAT, which is the best of the SAT books?

Thanks..
