Which BS/MD program is the best, meaning with the best med school? I know this can be very arguable, but what are some of the programs that are through the most competitive/prestigious medical schools? I haven't found a program through the top medical schools yet, but perhaps some are out there. Now I'm debating if it would be better to go to a standard 4 year undergrad school for premed and then apply to a better med school.

Also, is it possible to apply to other med schools in a 6 or 7 year bs/md program without losing your spot in the med school of your program? From what I understand, this option is available in 8 year programs, but correct me if i'm wrong.

Northwestern and Baylor are the best medical schools that offer guaranteed medical programs. WashU sort of has a program, but you have to take the MCAT and get a 36 while maintaining a 3.8, which I've heard is not easy at WashU.

actually University of Pittsburgh's Medical School is ranked higher than Northwestern's...

A lot of the schools with top med schools don't have those programs. Some do, but they come with strings attached like Washington University in St. Louis (as mentioned above).

and Baylor is ranked higher than pitt, and washu is even ranked higher than Baylor. you have to realize that most medical school rankings like US News are BS. Getting into a single medical school is an incredible feat in itself because almost 50% of people who apply to medical schools don't even get in a single one. all the medical schools mentioned in this thread are top 20 medical schools and they are all very fine medical schools.

And to respond to the OP's last question, I don't think you can apply out after 4 yrs without losing your guaranteed spot. At Northwestern, that is certainly the case but you can still apply as a regular MD applicant.
