I'm looking at a bunch of schools and i'm the goalie for my team. I have been on A team since 6th grade an i've heard that im actually pretty good. What are some good schools that need a goalie? or just have a very strong program ( i'm looking to play in college.)

idk about a goalie…but my school, middlesex school, has a beast girls field hockey team…they even went to bermuda over the summer…and i think they have been ISL champions for the past three years…and they send a bunch of kids to college for field hockey…

Hotchkiss. New england Champs last year - they successfully defended their title bringing the total to 8 I believe.

A couple of pieces of advice…

goaliegirl (ice hockey) doesn’t play in goal for field hockey (she starts up front, but has played all positions except goal). You will find that the best preparation for the college game - especially for goal - comes from playing on turf (not grass), as the top college programs play on turf and turf is a much faster game (better skill development). Try to focus on teams who play on turf at home and hopefully many league opponents with the same setup.

I would also recommend with the season starting in the next week or so, that you look at rosters to see who is graduating a goalie and when. No use in going into a school with a goalie 1 or 2 years in front of you, if you objective is to start. This will narrow the field a bit as well.

Next question, what are you college objectives (although they do change over your HS years - trust me they have for goaliegirl)? Are you looking to use field hockey as a ticket to an Ivy admission? If so, you might want to consider a slightly less competitive boarding school where you will be at the top of your class (higher grades), as most Ivy schools use womens sports (especially lower profile sports such as field hockey) as a way to raise their over Academic Index score across all teams.

goaliegirl is not going to play field hockey in college (although her field hockey coach says she is definitely very D3 recruitable) because the schedule interferes with her pre-season ice hockey (primary objective) at school. She still plays and her team is rapidly improving since they got their field turf. They have been recruiting some better players as a result and hope to advance further in the playoffs this year.

Good Luck!

yeah i want to play for an ivy in college and its my main sport so no conflicts or anything. thanks!
