So if we haven’t gotten anything by this point - it’s probably too late?

unfortunately, i think so. i really hope someone proves me wrong but that is my understanding.

Provisional recipient :)

This was the easiest $1000 I’ve ever earned.

Did you just get the email?

karaokemachine, did you find out TODAY? Or last Friday? This makes a huge difference!

Found out last Friday about being a provisional recipient :)

@wampum @hardworking21 The e-mail is from Friday 3/2

Hey, my son’s Applicant number is different on the provisional email he received from the BBUY applicant number on his scholarship application. Did anyone else notice this, or is it a mistake somewhere?

Did you all really hear from Best Buy already? On their website it says notifications wouldn’t go out until “late March”. I’m not great at math, but I didn’t think March 2 or 3rd qualifies as “late March”. Did they decide to mail out early? Can anyone from the Best Buy Scholarship reply? (I’m guessing they are not reading this thread, but hey, you never know!)

Congratulations to all who received it.

Oops - never mind - you don’t have to reply to my prior question (I had been checking my wrong email account). – apparently, they did complete mailing out all provisional winner letters (to anyone else who may have wondered).

This is really weird. My letter says that I’m a provisional winner and that I’ll get the $1000, but that I was an alternate…

Um, What?

"Dear XXXXXXX:

Congratulations, I am pleased to announce that as an alternate, you have been selected as a provisional recipient in the 2012 Best Buy Scholarship Program.
As a provisional recipient, you will be awarded a $1,000 Best Buy scholarship award provided you submit the forms listed below to Scholarship Management "

UMMM Oh well.

Serious question:

The check is made out to our college? But what about recipients who aren’t H.S. seniors? (I mean, I’m a high school senior… But I’d much rather keep the money as spending cash because I’m going to a college thats giving me a full ride basically)

Most colleges require you to report all scholarships won, and most have the requirement that all aid from institution-based and outside scholarships can’t exceed the cost of attendance. So even if you were personally given the check, you’d have to report it to the college.

nolo- When are your papers due? The submission dates have already passed for provisional recipients. Maybe the person that was selected did not send in paperwork so now you can take their place. I hope this is the case for you!

april 9th… i need to rush and get my references down i hope i don’t absentmindedly miss this… hm

Daughter notified today that she will receive the a Best Buy Scholarship. Official list will be released online on May 14th.

I received it last year, from what I know, as long as you submit your materials on time and everything is legit, signatures and whatnot, you shouldn’t worry about receiving it or not.

My D also got email confirmation & a letter & forms are in the mail. She is a junior. What do they do about sending the check if you don’t know what college yet?
