Best Buy has a deal for college students: buy a 700$ laptop and get a free 200$ Xbox. What do you guys think of the offer? Would it be useful to get the xbox and then sell it, for say 150$. Then it would be like getting 150$ on a 700$ laptop. Any thoughts?

It’s actually a Microsoft deal; Best Buy is just participating.
The offer also extends to some desktops. And you don’t have to be in college–high school is acceptable.

It’s a great deal. If you don’t play games, then you can sell it, or give it to some friends/family that do enjoy games.

I believe it’s also on the Dell, HP, and Microsoft website, as well as Amazon. The last one was pretty surprising, because they have a much wider variety of laptops.

The deal’s not that great if you get it through Dell though. It only comes in specific bundles, where you end up paying $100+ more than you would have for the same laptop by itself. I haven’t even figured out how to buy one through HP yet. The amazon prices don’t strike me as all that good either

I saw somebody posting on reddit the other day that the deal was a complete sham. You basically pay for the price of the xbox when they set the price of the laptop 100-200 dollars too high.

If you’re looking for a lower-end machine, it may be worth maybe $100. Dell does not include Latitudes, only Inspirons and XPS’s and choices are rather limited. The XPS15 is an awesome laptop, but a bit overpriced as others have said. The Apple deal is better since Apple does not have umpteen different flavors of laptops and such.

Having said this, the new Xbox is NICE but I’d rather have the 250gb drive variety which you can add of course. If you’re a gamer it is an improvement over the older (white) Xbox with much quieter operation and WiFi.

darn .edu email requirement!

Dell jacks up the price $100 dollars by adding a “Student warranty” to the package. Huge BS!

Haven’t checked HP yet.

Best Buy and the Microsoft store seem to be doing the real FREE XBOX deal but they only have a limited number of models…

I tried using HP’s chat service and they told me to call instead.

I called and it sounds like the offer is only available over the phone. The woman on the phone has what I can only describe as an inauthentic Candadian accent. It took me about 20 minutes for them to give me a list of the eligible laptops.

Anyone know if I can get this deal using my financial aid? LET ME KNOW!! (:

As long as you’re a college student, this shouldn’t be a problem. If your university doesn’t have .edu e-mail addresses, you can probably get away with offering some other form of proof.
