Best Cellphone for MIT

Hey guys I'm looking for a good cellphone plan for my time at MIT. I wanted to know do all cellphone companies offer good reception on MIT Campus, off Campus (Boston ), or Both? Which is the best? I heard Cingular and AT&T don't work so well on campus is this true? Has anyone used MIT preffered Cellphone plans? Did they all have good reception? Also, in general is it better to buy a plan at Cambridge/Boston rather than keep plan (at your area) with National Calling included? I appreciate your input, especially if you are a current student or work at the MIT campus. Thanks

My experience using a TDMA phone and AT&T/Cingular has been that reception is very spotty in certain places around campus. Spots I've had trouble include: infinite corridor/lobby 10, inside and around 26-100, East Campus, Stata Center, and the whole Kendall Square area right around the T stop. A friend of mine has a GSM phone with AT&T/Cingular and she says reception is better but still not ideal. I'd love to hear people's experiences with Verizon because I'm thinking of switching to them.

there's a thread about cell phones [url=<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=58966%5Dhere%5B/url">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=58966]here[/url</a>].</p>

I have Sprint and I've been pretty happy with them so far. No dropped calls and pretty good reception around campus - certain spots in the school (like Stata, Simmons) reception is non-existant so getting one bar at any of those places does not mean much (the call will get dropped).

I have verizon and I love it...

One feature of MIT seems to be a lot of thick walls... ;) They are great for testing even the best of cell phone services.

I've got Verizon, and it works pretty well. The student center is solid concrete, so nobody's works there. Verizon is popular and most people like it.

I kept my number from home, everyone up at MIT has a national plan so calling 617 or whatever area code you have isn't a burden. The only people I know that have a 617 number were those who came to MIT without a cell phone (and bought one up north).
