I have searched a lot about the choral programs in many BS. And I found st.paul's and st. andrew(DE)'s chiors are exceptional. Loomis chaffe's and kent's choir are good but not that great as the first two schools.
I also heard some other schools have good choirs too, such as NMH,
Woodberry Forest,St.albans, stevenson and geogre, etc. But I can't find any recordings or vedios among these schools. Thus I can't find how great they are...Could you guys help me?
BTW, are there any other BS have a unique choral program?

@PabloIglesias,
St. Paul’s has an amazing choral program. I’ve listened to their recordings, and they are phenomenal. Groton also has an amazing choir, and if you get the chance, you must get one of their CD’s. Both choirs perform weekly for chapel, so if you’re a singer, these are two places you should definitely check out.

If you’re into choral music, I’d also recommend Andover, St. Mark’s, Concord Academy, and Middlesex. All of theses schools are relatively close to Boston, which has some great opportunities for high school singers. One great choir for high school singers is the NEC prep Youth Chorale and Camerata. Here’s a link to the Prep School website (the website’s not that great):[Preparatory School | New England Conservatory](<a href=“The College | New England Conservatory”>Prep Homepage | New England Conservatory)

Also, there is the Boston City Singers. They are another great group for high school singers. They have travelled some pretty cool places, and they sing some pretty unique stuff. Here’s a link to their site: [Boston City Singers - About Us](http://bostoncitysingers.org/)

And finally, there’s Longy. Longy School of Music has a program for high schoolers. I don’t know as much about Longy as I do about NEC and Boston City Singers. Here’s a link to Longy’s site:[Longy School of Music of Bard College](http://www.longy.edu/prep_studies/prep_general.htm)

Also, Deerfield’s choral program is coming up. They recently performed the Faure Requiem, so they are worth a look. Their a cappella groups also are great. They have an a cappella fest every winter, with their groups performing and several college groups performing as well. Also, the did very well at a competition hosted at Exeter. Definitely check out Deerfield if you’re into choral music.

NMH is supposed to have a very good choir. I think they performed at the White House last Christmas. I haven’t heard them, or seen their repertoire, so I can’t judge them that much. But, if they’re performing at the White House, they have to be able to sing in tune. :)

I have to go now. I’ll chime in some later when I have time. Send me a PM if you have any questions.

Many of the schools you have named as having strong choir programs are Episcopal schools: St. Paul’s, Groton, St. Andrew’s, Kent.

Hey, I’m back. Now, to telling you more than you probably wanted to know about prep school music programs.

Taft has an good choral program. It appears they’ve taken a tour every year in recent years, going places like Italy and Spain. So, that’s a great thing that they tour a lot. Here’s a link to a video of them performing. They sound quite solid: [The Taft School Collegium (How Can I Keep From Singing-Robert Wadsworth Lowry) - YouTube](<a href=“The Taft School Collegium (How Can I Keep From Singing-Robert Wadsworth Lowry) - YouTube”>The Taft School Collegium (How Can I Keep From Singing-Robert Wadsworth Lowry) - YouTube)

I think Loomis’ choir also performed the same piece. But, I’m not sure about this. I haven’t heard Loomis’ choir, but Loomis seems to have a good all-around music program. They have good Music courses. You can judge for yourself:[Loomis Chaffee: Music Courses](http://www.loomischaffee.org/page.cfm?p=6584)

I think Andover has a pretty awesome music program. They have a ton of offerings in Music Theory, History, etc. I think they offer more Music courses than any other school I’ve looked at. A cappella there is pretty popular, and I heard one of their a cappella groups sing on a Day with Andover last year, and I thought they were pretty good. Here’s a recording of their all-male a cappella group “The Yorkies” perform. The soloist in this song is ridiculously good.
Ifax gives a pretty solid answer. I’m not familiar with the choral programs at all of the BSs, so I can only speak what I know about that at Middlesex. At least 25% of the student population participate in choral music in some capacity, with Chapel Chorus being the largest and non-auditioned ensemble that perform several times a year at major school events. For more serious singers, there’s the coed Small Chorus that sing an eclectic array of popular and classical works, and they perform annually at WICK choral festival at St. Marks School. The premiere girls and boys acapella groups are MXOlydians and Bateman’s Bullfrogs, and there’s a less professional girls group called SWAG that’s just emerged this year. I’m pretty impressed by the recordings posted on their website, especially the second girl who sings Speechless: http://www.mxschool.edu/choral-groups

I think at MX there are lots of opportunities for students to develop as singers. The school hires great instructors around the Boston area to teach private lessons; many of them also serve on the voice faculty at famous conservatories, grad schools and have performed at world-caliber venues. The proximity to Boston with its huge resources is also a plus.

That said, I have heard wonders about Choate’s a capella group. I checked them out on Youtube and they do sound amazing, and I hear they tour, so perhaps consider Choate also…
Good luck!

Bump, any other ideas? How about the choral program in woodberry forest school, geogre school and st.mark’s school?

CHOATE. Choate has a great program! Last year, the chorus went on a tour of Italy. Also, I know the teachers personally, and they’re FABULOUS. Honestly, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better pair of teachers. Plus, the Paul Mellon Arts Center is amazingly beautiful and equipped with a new recording studio, and the chorus records CDs each year.

Sadly, I don’t know about Andover’s chorus program… And I’m going there this fall. That’s not good…
