I am a high school Sophmore and want to be a business major. I want to start one or more clubs at my school and am wondering what are the best business/ honor socities/ social action/ political clubs?

A Finance or Investment Club

FBLA, without a doubt. I'm the president of my chapter and it's a wonderful experience, and great for college applications! Join the chapter at your school, and if there isn't one start your own. The website is www.fbla-pbl.org

those FBLA kids look like nerds. start your own investment club.

DECA

www.deca.org

I am a student at Wharton, and this is straight from the horse's mouth ie the adcoms:

do you need business related EC's to get in? NOT AT ALL!
Do they even appreciably help? not specifically.

I certainly hadn't even heard of DECA or FBLA or any of that. I was involved in literary journals, yearbook, philosophy clubs, math clubs, etc. They want to see that you follow your passion, and have active leadership roles in clubs which are meaningful to you. If DECA/FBLA is such a club, that's great...but really, do what you love, you'll do it best.

FBLA's a joke. It's a bunch of southern kids (mainly Virgina, Georgia, Florida, etc.) that think they're going to become CEO's one day because they are in a club called Future Business Leaders but when you ask them about anything actually business related they look at you like you're speaking chinese. Up in the North, we have very mild involvement in FBLA because we know it is a program that merely distracts those who will most likely never make a decent living with business, have never heard of investment banking/consulting/trading, and who think the only way you can get rich is by becoming a "fortune 500 ceo".

I bet an actual job would look much better.

kid, if you wanna start a club, dont listen to those people...if you start a business-type club, not only will they see your interest in business, but it will be a huge leadership plus

go for it
