Best Cognitive Science Schools

Hi I’m a rising senior in high school and I’m thinking of going into a major in cognitive science and a minor in artificial intelligence. I’ve seen a lot of lists that usually go like 1. ucsd 2. ucb 3. stanford 4. yale 5. upenn and so on and so forth, but I’m curious to hear what schools you guys think are best for cognitive science in terms of wanting to go into AI and wanting to do research as an undergraduate.

I know a lot of schools that don’t offer cognitive science but have neuroscience and psychology, so any recommendations in that would be great too. I think majoring in psych or neuroscience with a minor in AI is fine too so please give me all the recommendations that you have! Thanks so much

You might want to see whether Vassar’s long-established cognitive science curriculum aligns with your interests: https://cogsci.vassar.edu/.

Speaking from UCB’s standpoint, yes it’s right near or at the top; my kid is using Cognitive Science as his domain emphasis (kinda like a mini-minor) for Data Science, so I know a little bit about the major. It is very tied to the CS and now Data Science groups and both majors are very strong in AI and Machine Learning. @smsk is a Cog Sci major at Berkeley and she can probably tell you more.

For undergraduate research opportunities in general, you may want to look through this USN list for any colleges that offer the particular programs that interest you: https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/undergrad-research-programs.

MIT: Has a strong cognitive science department and is of course very strong in CS, and undergrads do extensive research. You can take a look:
