Best college for philosophy & classics

In the event I’m not accepted to where I want to be, which colleges/universities have a reputation for superlative philosophy/classics courses/professors?

Brown, Bryn Mawr, College of the Holy Cross and Reed all have excellent Classics departments.

St Johns (no religious affiliation) seems as if it would be tailor-made for you: https://www.sjc.edu/academic-programs

Thanks for the tips! I’ll be sure to check out the colleges you’ve all recommended. I’m a Canadian from a low-income family, and many universities I’ve looked at thus far offer little financial aid to international students. St. John’s does seem tailor-made for me, though I ran across this on their website: “we are unable to meet 100% of demonstrated need for all international applicants.” I’d probably be fine if 80% of my need was met, but it’s still something that concerns me.

“Holy Cross offers limited funding for international students,” so says their website. I’ll have to inquire and find out.

Brown is appealing, but as an Ivy, it’s definitely a reach, and they too say “International students are eligible to apply for University financial aid; however, funding is limited.”

Reed looks very promising: “Reed meets 100 percent of the demonstrated need of all admitted students, international or domestic, for all four years.” Plus, it’s not a huge reach; I’m pretty sure I could meet the average SAT score of 1440.

Too bad I’m a male, Bryn Mawr looks fantastic. My unweighted GPA was 4.0 - I graduated with a 95% average. I haven’t taken the SAT yet, and have just one shot coming up on November 4th.
