best college for super-shy, super-smart D science eventual PhD?

Beloit can go down to 23k with just merit scholarships (highest is 17k, total price of college is ~40k), if she is a musician she can get an additional 4k p/y music scholarship that isn’t super competative. That would bring it down to 19k a year.

How come no one’s mentioned CalTech?? I know a very very shy, science-y boy who wound up there and thrived.

Bucknell University so far has been a great place for my D who sounds very much like yours. The soriority ended up being a great place for my shy daughter to meet alot of nice girls who she never would have met otherwise. She also plays in the band and has joined other clubs as well. Bucknell does a great job in orientation and in the dorms to get the kids to meet. There are many non’alcoholic events to keep her busy as well.
I agree that the smaller LAC’s are a good option. Other places my daughters have liked are Middlebury, Bowdoin, Pomona and Williams which seem similar in their efforts to offer alot of activities to keep the community feel.
