I moved to Dallas from London this year in August and I'm currently in 11th grade in high school. I would like to go into medicine and I've been doing research on which colleges are good for pre-med. I have a 3.4 GPA right now and I plan to improve on this. I'm currently part of the school debate team and french club and I have multiple volunteering experiences from London. I'm also going to volunteer at a clinic from January.
Currently on my list are:
Rice (first choice)
SMU (close to home)
Baylor (good rankings for med)
UT (not as keen on this as it's a rather big university)

Can anyone tell me a bit more about these universities and which one they think would be best for me? Also are there any I've missed and should look into? Finally any general advice for getting into college/pre-med? I realise I've asked a lot of questions but I really appreciate any advice at all. Thank you.

Hard question to answer. I would ask you a few more questions first: what are you interested in studying in college? what are your SAT scores? How sure are you about medicine? what can your folks afford? do you prefer urban or more isolated? small or large (sound alike small given your comment about UT)?

Other places to consider include UT Dallas and UTSA. UT Dallas has generous merit aid and would be close to home. UTSA has a six year BA/MD program for top students. St Marys U also has a path to med school plan and good placement in med school.

I’m interested in majoring in Biology. I’ve done two practice SAT tests and my first score was 1980 and the second was 2050, I’m going to a tutor to improve this score. I’ve been set on medicine pretty much since I was a kid, I’m really interested in it and not likely to change. My parents have reasonable incomes my dad’s on 80k a year and my mum’s on 60. I would probably prefer an urban environment as I’m more used to this and I think I would find isolated colleges a bit boring. I like places with culture and things to do. I’m not a huge party person but it would be nice to go somewhere where there are shops, cinemas, museums etc. I would really like to go to a smaller school as I feel I thrive more in small classes compared to larger ones.

Thank you for your recommendations, UTD sounds good as it’s pretty close and I know a few people that go there and have heard good things. I’ll look into the other two.
