Regardless of if I decide to major in Journalism or not, I would like the opportunity to be on the staff of a reputable college newspaper. Most college newspapers I've looked at so far are worse than my high school newspaper, aside from the award-winning ones such as Penn State's, UPenn, and Columbia. But are there any other excellent college newspapers (with schools that are easier to get into than the ones mentioned above?) I'm looking for a school in the Mid-Atlantic area without a crazy tuition yet still with a superior newspaper.

Syracuse is known for their journalism program.

Ohio University has a good journalism program.
Also check out the schools in DC–both American University and GW have strong student newspapers, as well as a myriad of opportunities that come from being in the thick of things, all kinds of internships etc
