What school do you think has the best scene/surrounding area?

UMiami- Coral Gables/Miami
Colorado-Boulder
UGA-Athens
SMU-Dallas
ASU- Tempe (good friend going here, tells me how it's by far best college)
College of Charleston- Charleston
Tulane-New Orleans

I know some are cities some are towns, but what do you think the best place out of these is?!? (NOT BOSTON HA)

Just on personal preference, I’ve been to most of these cities and areas before, and I’d have to say that you can’t go wrong with New Orleans as a city in general. The culture was great, people were interesting and welcoming, you definitely won’t have a problem finding good food. And when Mardi Gras comes around, you won’t even have to drive anywhere and you’ll be right there. Now I’m not sure about Tulane’s campus, because I’ve never been there, but I’ve heard pretty decent things about it.

Of course this was before the hurricane, but I’m pretty sure most of the places have recovered by now. I can’t believe that was almost five years ago.

However, I have a relative out in the Boulder area and I have visited him a couple of times. The college area around there was pretty nice.

I can amplify on Veracity’s comment. Tulane is in the most upscale section of New Orleans and is widely considered one of the more beautiful campuses in a beautiful setting. Compared to some other parts of New Orleans, it suffered far less damage from Katrina and was back in session after a semester “off”. With various improvements that were subsequently undertaken, it is actually better than pre-Katrina on campus and in that part of town. There are areas such as the 9th ward that are still in shambles, but they are far from campus and not relevant to the college experience except as students get involved in community service and rebuilding.

I have been to all of the places mentioned, and all but Miami within the last year. It is very hard to compare such different settings, and they are all great places to be. I would vote for New Orleans for an urban school and Boulder for a (more) college town atmosphere, but Charleston is charming, Athens is rocking, so on and so forth. Just different styles completely.

The only reason I ask about ASU is because one of my good friends is going there and he’s always just talking about how he’s heard Tempe is the best college town in the world, and how the schools a very respectable public school.

I’m sort of biased about everything but I’m going through it all right now.

I feel like boulder is a great town but isn’t much of a school for intellectuals. Like my buddy going there probably has never read a book, and is the most pampered kid I know.

My sister went to smu and loved it but they call it southern milionaires university for a reason. Bunch of conservative clones.

Tulane and UMiami seem like really good places to be but I’m leaning to UM probably where I’ll end up.

Sorry if I offended anyone let me know what you think.

yeah ^^ I’m sort of a thinker, and I question alot of things so I’d like to be around kids who have the ability to have intelligent conversations as well as party and go to football games.
