Hi everyone! I am an aspiring microbiologist and high school sophomore. Although I am not sure whether I will go down the M.D. path or PhD path, I do know that I would like to pursue a very research-oriented career in virology. Could anyone recommend some universities where I could do lab research as an undergraduate? I know that Brown and Tufts have many biology research opportunities for undergrads, but I would like to know of other universities with similar opportunities that are on the same par academically as the two aforementioned schools.
If you’re sticking with universities, take a peek at Carnegie Mellon, it may be just your speed. Otherwise, many competitive LACs (like Williams, Wesleyan, the Claremonts) offer a lot of first-hand research experiences for bio majors. There are no grad students to get in their way, after all. Even the less competitive but still excellent LACs offer research opps for their undergrads.
LACs, Notre Dame, and the schools @JenJenJenJen mentioned.
what state do you live in?
MA
UCSB has the College of Creative Studies where you are treated as a grad student, take part in research, and the expectation is you’ll go on for a PhD. However probably not worth the OOS cost
Boston College for my vote
