you can find lots of info on the web.

Also when you enroll in a CC you should visit the transfer center. They will have workshops, brochures, and counselors you can talk with.

You don’t need to get an AA degree first, and beware of counselors that tell you that you do. You just need to complete the requirements for the colleges where you are applying. If you can get the AA along the way that’s fine, but some students end up spending an extra year at a CC to get an AA degree when they did not need to.

TAP gives preference in admissions for some majors at UCLA. Something you ought to look into is the TAG program which guarantees admission to many of the UC campuses. See [Transfer Admission Guarantee | UC Admissions](http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/guarantee/)

The CSU schools also offer this. See [California Community College Priority Transfer Agreements | Student Transfer | CSU](http://www.calstate.edu/transfer/apply/priority-agreements.shtml)

You can transfer from all of the CCs to both CSUs and UCs. But here is the part that many students don’t realize: you MUST specifically take the CC courses that are transferable. There is a list at all CCs of what courses are needed to transfer to a CSU, and what courses are needed to transfer to a UC. These lists are NOT the same, with the UC list being more specific than the CSU list, which in turn is much more specific than the list of gen ed classes needed to graduate with an AA.

Just make sure your credits transfer over to the school you want to go too

[Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) will show you what courses you need at any given CC to transfer to each major at each UC and CSU.

In come cases, a CC may not have full coverage of the lower division courses for a specific major at a specific UC or CSU. In that case, you could see if other CCs nearby have those courses. If not available, you would have to take the missing courses after transfer.

IGETC is a breadth requirement pattern that can be taken at CC in lieu of the differing breadth requirements at various UCs and CSUs. Most (but not all) majors at UC and CSU campuses accept IGETC.
