I plan on transferring to a UC from cc this is my 3rd year so I might as well apply for whatever degree I can get - have something to show for right? UCs don't even care about AAs or ASs do they. I remember my counselor saying I'm eligible for many AA degrees, but I'm not quite sure WHICH ONES to apply for. On it they say IGETCs/CSU or AA for transfer...there's so many I plan on switching majors after transferring too.

UC schools don’t really care whether you have an AA or not. They care about the completion of the IGETC and any prerequisite courses. That being said, if you have the units completed, you might as well apply for them.

Whichever ones you are eligible for will vary depending on your coursework and school. AA-T (AA for transfer) degrees allow you a gauranteed admission to at least one CSU school. But I think for UC’s it doesnt give you anything extra

AA degrees are not necessary for admission to any of the UCs nor do they enhance one’s chances of getting admitted.

It will enhance you getting a better job while in college and possibly later in life as well, but for UC’s it will not assist in admissions

Just think about it this way. Do people care about your high school degree if you have a higher degree? I guess your AA degree can be useful for those 2 years that you’re working on a BA/BS, but it kind of becomes useless after that. If you were transferring to a CSU, there are specific AA/AS-T degrees that you should apply to get priority admission and consideration from the CSU that you apply to.

Any CSU…even lets say I dunno, Cal poly?

@ilikegirls
I don’t believe you have a choice in which CSU. It just gaurantees you’ll get into at least one

I hope you’ve looked carefully into whether that will be allowed. The more popular majors at some UCs (for example Econ at UCLA) will not allow xfer students to change into that major.

The regular AA degree have the same requirements as AA-T so it would be better to apply for the AA-T wouldn’t it?

@ilikegirls - The AA-T does not require local graduation requirements.

Most CC’s require local requirements such as PE class Health Class and a Woman’s Studies/Humaities course

So if you’ve already done those then yes they’re about the same but I would double check at your CCC because most degrees have many different requirements.
