Best Cross Country Training Program

What's the best cross-country summer training program?

Do what works for you. There is no best program. Don't you hate when people say that?

Runner's Workshop or www.runnersworkshop.com. Have gone there for three years in Lake Tahoe and it is great. At least half of my team goes there and we have had two state champs go there from my school. They have great training and it is alot of fun. The guy who runs it is Mark. Good luck.

Well, one thing that you want to keep in mind is to start to build up your distance and speed. Don't start out the summer going all out, if you do that you could easily get injured.
I know that I'll be running 6 days a week, starting out with 30ish miles a week. By the end of the summer, I want to build up to about 45-50 a week.

Concerning running in Lake Tahoe - it is absolutely gorgeous. I haven't done that specific program, but sometimes my xc team treks up there (it's so much better than running in the desert). The altitude takes some getting used to, but it makes going back home so much easier. The local girls XC recently competed at Nike Championships, and (I think) several people were invited to Footlocker.

I'm going to be training in Pittsburgh over summer (because I'm doing a summer program). Any suggestions for running in the area around Carnegie Mellon? Should I just stick to a treadmill?

what the hell is nike championship? NTN? NIN? Great American? and NON isnt yet. oh, and i think running camp stuffs are useless unless ur serious about it. as the above poster said, start building up the milage. start little and build up 10% of milage per week. so if u run 20 miles per week,...

week 1: 20 miles
week 2: 22 miles
week 3: 24 miles
......................
week 7: 33 miles
week 8: 36 miles

but try not to do lots of speedworks or racing. speed comes from strength and u can get that as the season goes on. train at just below "lactic acid threshold".

PM me if you want more information. or go to www.dyestat.com/forum.

sorry for any confusion... I meant NTN.

which school? cause i went there (Saratoga).

South Lake Tahoe High (I don't go there, but my coach obssesses abou them).... it might have been 2004, but i think it was 05.....

there's no NTN in 2004 dumbass.

I'm coming right out of long distance track going into training for XC. 30 miles a week is about what we ran for track. Is it going to hurt me to go more now?

if you've doing 30 mpw, start there. 30-33-36-39....

how long do u have to be at a high altitude to benefit from it?

and for anyone who's done high altitude, how long did u do it and how much did your times improve by?

icantspellmyname, there's no rule in improvement. but dont even think about it yet. ur still a n00b.
