What is it? I have a limited amount of funds and can't afford classes or tutoring, but I want to buy myself a good prep book. What is the absolute best, most-agreed upon, best book?

Curious as to the answers.

Also, is it important to get the most recent prep book for SAT's? Would it really be a big deal if I studied with the 2005-2006 prep book, for example?

The official book has the best practice tests, but no strategies and no answer explanations. The Princeton Review book has the next best practice tests, strategies, and answer explanations, so if you really only can get one, then get that one. Check your local library too, or your school's counseling office. You might have to wait to check one out at school, but they might have it.

I really like the explanations in the princeton book, but I have trouble trusting any other source but the collegeboard's test book. I think it would be to your benefit to use that one just because you know the problems are right from the source, and if it comes to the point where u really need an explanation, just post it here and we'd be glad to lend a hand.

The CB Blue Book. If you need explanations, they're all contributed by CC members in a featured thread in this forum. For me, they are the most realistic questions... but I also have the Princeton book which gives explanations to everything, and that's helped a little.
