Best dorms?

Hi everyone! I’m majoring in Agribusiness and Applied Economics (CFAES) this fall and have been admitted to the Mount Leadership Society Scholars Program. It would be extremely helpful if anyone knows where my classes will be and which are the best dorms nearby! Thanks!!!

Aren’t you going to live in the dorm with the other Mount Scholars?

From the Mount Website:

“All first-year Mount Leadership Society Scholars live in Bowen House, opening Fall 2015, on North Campus. This shared living environment is a critical component of the program and provides students with the distinct advantage of building relationships with other students who share similar interests and who are likely to enroll in similar courses.”

Bowen House is a brand new dorm on Lane and High Street, on North Campus.
The Mount kids are really excited about moving there from Haverfield.

Omg I was so worried about where my classes will be that I totally forgot that!! Thank you!! I am still super confused about the courses… will I be able to pick Honor courses as a Mount Scholar?

Mount is a Scholars program, not an Honors.
You will get priority scheduling, but not honors classes.

Wow thanks for the info! I thought the Scholars was part of the Honors Program… Does priority scheduling mean that I can register for class earlier than the rest? And will I be able to transfer to the Honors from the Scholars?

It is a bit confusing, the general program is called Honors and Scholars.
It is a large program consisting of about 15 Honors Programs
and about 12 Scholar Programs. You are in one of the Scholar Programs.
The Honors programs are the ones with the Honors classes.
Some kids love the classes, others complain that it is too much!

Scholars will give you a community, assigned dorm, priority scheduling, meaning you can schedule before other freshman students. You still need to fill out the roommate questionnaire to determine roommate assignment.

You will be getting information about the Mount Program during your orientation in May or June.
You will be assigned a Mega, an upperclassman who will help you and answer questions. (You are a Mini, a first year.)

You will arrive three days early before the other OSU freshman for Mount Launch week, team building activities, etc.

It is a nice program, nice kids, I think you will enjoy it.

You are so lucky to be living in Bowen House, it is still under construction, it looks like it is almost done
when I was there over this past weekend. It is a brand new dorm, supposed to be very nice. OSU
is also building a mini union, eating areas, walk ways, etc… the plans look really nice.

I am not sure how or if you can transfer to an Honors Program.
I suggest you call the Honors and Scholars Program office and ask them about that.

Congratulations on being a Mountie!

Thank you so much for all the information!! Now I love OSU even more!!! I feel so lucky and proud to be a Mountie! The only problem is that I don’t think I will be able to go to the US in May or June for my orientation because I am an international student and now I’m living in Chile. :frowning:

Not to worry, there will be a big Mount orientation for parents and students on the day you move in, and you will be given information about the program then. In the meantime, they have a FB page, Ytube, etc. Also the program co-ordinater Kathy K. is very nice and available by email. Go to the OSU S/H website and you will find a lot of information about Mount which is one of the well known scholar programs.

So now you don’t have to worry about where to live, that is all taken care of!
I am not sure where your classes will be held, but OSU is a walkable campus and there
is a good bus system.

In terms of packing, OSU is a very casual campus, bring some warm clothing for the winter.
But as a Mountie, bring a couple of skirts and tops for various activities.
Also you will need a dress for the winter dance hosted by Mount.

There are also events hosted by the Honors and Scholars program and you
can attend those events as well. My daughter is on the Honors and Scholars Student Board
and they just hosted a De-Stress event before finals, with pet therapy, speakers, etc.

I think you will be assigned your Mega fairly soon and that person will be available
to answer Mount or university questions. But please feel free to ask here, I will help you
if I can.

Wow that’s amazing!! Thank you for everything!! You are like my mom in Ohio >:D< I’m truly looking forward to meeting you!! Can’t wait for class to start hahaha

Would love to meet you as well.

Classes will start before you know it.

@OSUmom2018 I’ve got a question about the housing contract… I was completing my room type preference and it says that for each preference I have to choose between 1 person occupancy / 2 person occupancy / 2 person super double occupancy / 3 person occupancy / 4 person occupancy / cooperative scholarship alumnae / cooperative scholarship stadium.

I’m not sure if the n person occupancy refers to the number of person per room, or the total number of people living in the same suite. :-/

In Bowen they have 2-person room in a 2 room suite / 2-person room in a 3 or 4 room suite / 1-person room with bath / 2-person room with community sinks.

If I want to live in a 2-person room 2-room suite, then I have to pick the 2 person occupancy option?

Thank you!!
